Radiopharmaceutical Kits

Tc-99m radiopharmaceuticals are used in nuclear medicine  centers as diagnostic imaging agents. This radionuclide is used in over 80% of all diagnostic procedures, which are used in several diagnostic procedures from the use of pertechnetate for thyroid uptake to use of Tc-99m octreotide derivatives for imaging neuroendocrine tumors.

These products are generally formulated from kits which are prepared in authorized manufacturing facilities.

A cold kit contains the ligand in which Tc-99m is to be complexed, an adequate quantity of reducing agent, buffer, stabilizing agents and excipients. The radiopharmaceutical kits are prepared  according to GMP requirements and in a freeze-dried form and have a long shelf life, ranging from several months to one year.

The Radiopharmaceutical kits can be transported at room temperature; however, keeping in a refrigerator at 2 - 8 ºC is advantageous and ensures a long shelf life in most cases.
